The Sonoran Desert

The Sonoran Desert is a North American desert which covers large parts of Arizona, California, Sonora Mexico, and Baja California. It is the hottest desert in North America, with an area of 110,000 sq. miles.

Distinguishing the Sonoran Desert is both winter and summer rains. Typically winter rains come from the north and summer rains from the south.

The Sonoran Desert boasts a surprising amount of ecological diversity because both the plants and animals have had to develop various mechanisms for dealing with the hot dry weather.
