Straight paired spines.

Flowers small, yellow green, Apr-Oct.

Fruits are ¼” round yellow to orange, edible, sweet.

Popular with many desert animals.

Native peoples dried the fruits for winter snacks.

Dense foliage provides cover for quail and nesting for white winged doves.
